Devotional : The Lack of Faith ROBS US OF HIS
POWER
Today is the day that someone
needs to get hold of the truth that “The Just Shall Live By
Faith!”
THE LACK OF FAITH
Deut 32:19-21 "And when the
LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and
of his daughters. And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see
what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation,
children in whom is no faith."
The greatest hindrance in
the Christian life is “no faith.” This was the problem with Israel
and they provoked the Lord to anger because of their unbelief.
That leads us to question: Is it possible to have saving faith
and stop there? I believe this passage teaches this. They
had enough faith to get them out of Egypt but not enough faith to get
them into Canaan. This is like a believer walking after the flesh.
He is out of fellowship with God and in fellowship with the world.
Let’s notice some important things that results from a lack of
faith---
THE LACK OF FAITH PRODUCES FEAR
Mark
4:40-41 "And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that
ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to
another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey
him?"
In this verse fear is associated with “no faith.”
Jesus asks, “how is it that ye have no faith?” Jesus did not
tell them that they had no courage. Fear is “a distressing emotion
aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is
real or imagined; it is the feeling or condition of being afraid.”
---Webster.
THE LACK OF FAITH CAUSES HUMAN
REASONING
The reasoning of the flesh measures the problem
(that which we fear) over against our own ability to handle the
situation. Someone has said that fear is confidence in the
enemy. When the children of Israel were set to go into the
Promised Land they measured themselves against the giants in the land.
They believed the unbelieving spies and paid a price. God
expects us to believe in Him and what He says. Israel paid a great price
for their unbelief, i.e., they wandered in the wilderness. Caleb
and Joshua were the only two of the twelve spies who had faith that God
had given them the land. When they finally entered the land, Caleb
asks for the mountain where the giants were and he proved that with the
blessings of the Lord the giants could be defeated. The disciples
who were in the boat with Jesus were terrified of the prospects of going
down to a watery grave. Jesus calmed the sea and said to them “how
is it that ye have no faith?” Then they turned from their fear of
drowning to a fear of Christ who could do such a thing. The lack
of faith causes human reasonings.
THE LACK OF FAITH ROBS US OF
HIS POWER
Matthew 17:19-20 "Then came the disciples
to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus
said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If
ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing
shall be impossible unto you."
WHEN A MIRACLE IS
WROUGHT FAITH IS ALWAYS THERE TO BELIEVE AND RECEIVE IT
If
faith is not there to receive the thing asked for it will not take
place. Faith is an amazing attribute. It finds God’s
promises and believes them.
John 11:41-44 "Then they
took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus
lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard
me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the
people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast
sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice,
Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand
and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin.
Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go."
Jesus
only had to speak the word and the Miracle was preformed. Jesus
works miracle with His Word. We need to walk by faith and never
doubt. But if you operate like I do, my flesh constantly gets in
the way. Look past your flesh today and see what Jesus wants to do
for you.
