the only way to the Father

The Preacher's Special

PSALM 31:19

What a wonderful thing to trust in the Lord. It is a privilege that cannot be measured in human terms.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. (Psalms 118:8).

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him... (Job 13:15).

Trust in him at all times... (Psalms 62:8).

...Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. (Psalms 2:12).

... O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust... (Psalms 7:1).

Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust... (Psalms 40:4).

... I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever. (Psalms 52:8).

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. (Psalms 56:3).

For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. (Psalms 71:5).

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5).

The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. (Proverbs 29:25).

Iím glad we can trust in the Lord this morning.
We can trust Him because He:
Died for us.
Provides for us.
Pleads our case before God.
Secures our place in Heaven.

We may not always be able to trace Him, but we can always trust Him.

We canít trace:
Where He came from.
Where He is going.
What He is doing in our lives.
How He blesses.
Who He saves.
Why He loves.
When He is coming.
But, thank God, we can always trust Him, He is in control, He does all things well.

You cannot trust people. All through the Bible, we are told not to trust in man, in princes, kings, ourselves, or any other person. That always brings disappointment.

How many do you know that have the testimony that they donít want to go back to Church because someone disappointed them. Maybe it was a Preacher, a member, a friend or any number of others you might name.

People are not the problem, where they put their trust is the problem. People will fail you, even the best people you know, but the Lord will never fail you.

I have been let down by people, forsaken by friends, opposed by family, attacked by my enemies, ignored by many, lied to, cheated on, cursed and hurt, but I have never, never been disappointed in Jesus.

He will never leave you nor forsake you, He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother, He never fails.

You cannot trust politics or politicians. That is not to say that there are not any good people trying to serve our country and the people in it. But they are just that, people.

Their policies and promises are not always true and sound. There are too many things that can change. We have to learn to trust in that which never changes, the Lord.

The politicianís promise of government care for people is shallow and untrue. It is built on nothing more than words and intentions, most of which cannot be trusted.

We need Godís security, not the governmentís social security.
We need Godís care, not Hilaryís health care.
We need to raise up our children in the way that they should go, not rely on government child care.

Years ago this country was great and respected because we trusted in God and not the government and the people making promises they cannot keep, with money they did not make, taken from people that they donít want to serve.

Christ is the answer, we must get back to trusting Him.

You cannot trust in programs. It seems there is a new program coming out every day. The results will be the same as the programs that came out before. I believe the modern programs of the government are a great cause of the judgement of God upon this land. These programs are designed to keep us from trusting God.

Because of all the programs we have developed a philosophy that says we want a God that we donít need. We want to trust something else. God will never bless that.

That philosophy has made itís way into our Churches. We have fund raisers, so-called Christian financial investors, and many other programs that we have developed to take the place of trusting God.

Before bingo there was trusting God.
Before the lottery there was trusting God.
Before chicken suppers and Church bar-b-ques there was trusting God.

Godís people need to get back to trusting God and them we will see the windows of Heaven open and the blessings of God pour out on the Church again.

You cannot trust in your pocket book. The warning in the Bible is clear, we are not to trust in riches.

A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. (Psalms 37:16).

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death. (Proverbs 11:4).

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. (Proverbs 11:28).

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. (Proverbs 23:5).

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: (Jeremiah 9:23).

Those that get on TV and brag about all the money they make and those that are glued to that TV watching and hoping that they too can get rich so they can glory in those riches and longing for something that will fly away and never bring the joy that we think it will.

...Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! (Mark 10:24).

How foolish it is to give up Heaven for the riches of this world that will pass away and burn one day. How much would it take for the Devil to buy your soul? Some today are selling themselves cheap.

Why trade a few worthless dollars for all the riches that the Lord can give?

That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (Ephesians 3:16).

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19).

You cannot trust in your personal ability. There is nothing that you can do that will help you for eternity. You works, your money, your position, your family, nothing will be sufficient when it is time to die. We must trust the Lord. Only He can satisfy.

There are those in this world with great personal ability. I thank God for them. I wish I were more like them. But if they choose to trust their ability, they will loose.

They examples are numerous. Movie stars with great ability have lost touch with reality and die horrible and shameful deaths, because they trusted in the wrong thing.

The same is true for sports stars and many others. We ask, why would they throw their lives away? Because they trusted in that which will destroy, not save.

Are you trusting in the wrong things today? There is only one place to trust, in the Lord Jesus Christ.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. (Psalms 73:28).

One day, those that have trusted in the things of this world will look back in sorrow and regret. But those that trust in the Lord will look back and say it was good.

But I trust in the Lord Jesus ... that I also may be of good comfort... (Philippians 2:19).

You can trust the Book. The Word of God. The Bible.

Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail (Isaiah 34:16).

The King James Bible that I hold in my hand is The Word Of God. It is powerful, it is comforting, it is true, it is eternal, it will never fail.

So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word. (Psalms 119:42).

There are many things in this world that cannot be faced, endured, or understood apart from this Book.

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. (Proverbs 30:5).

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (Luke 4:4).

How are you going to make it today without the Word?
How will you understand the times?
How will you know the future?
How will you have hope?

You wonít without the Bible.

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. (1Thessalonians 2:13).

Too many are trusting in the words of men, But we have something that is trustworthy, it is the Word of God, it is truth, it will work in our lives.

... the word of God is not bound. (2Timothy 2:9).

There is no limit on Godís Word. It can do what nothing else can do, it can work when all else fails.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12).

The Devil hates it because of itís power, but the children of God love it and trust it because of itís power. Trust itís quick answer for our problems.
Trust itís power over the works and devices of the Devil.
Trust itís sharp cutting ability that reaches even the toughest sinner.
Trust itís piercing ability to show us right and warn us of wrong.
Trust it when even your own heart doesnít know what to do.
It is the Word of God, we can trust it.

... ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. (1John 2:14).

Too many are trusting in the things that come from the wicked one, we must trust in that which will overcome him, the Word of God.

We can trust in the Blood. The Blood of Christ that was shed on the cross for our sins.

... without shedding of blood is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22).

There is nothing else you can trust to take away your sin.

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (Romans 3:25).

That Blood doesnít just forgive sins, it forgives all sin, past, present, and future. God required it, Jesus provided it, and we can trust it.

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (Romans 5:9).

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the Blood of Jesus. I am trusting in that Blood, that is what will save me.

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; (Ephesians 1:7).

I cannot explain why He would save us, I donít know why He loves us even though we can never deserve that love. All I know is that His Grace is sufficient, He offers it to me through His shed Blood. We can trust it.

...Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, (Revelation 1:5).

He did it, we must trust it.

We can trust His blessings.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (1Timothy 6:17).

The blessings of God are ours to enjoy. He wants to bless His people, trust His and you will see and know the blessings of God.

Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: (Genesis 49:25).

His blessings are everywhere and they come from everywhere. We can trust Him to bless us. What a shame there are those in this room that never see those great blessings.

A faithful man shall abound with blessings... (Proverbs 28:20).

Sometimes we wonder if it is worth it, trust the Lord and you will see that it is worth it. He will make you abound with blessings, if you are faithful.

The faithful father will see his family blessed.
The faithful mother will see her home blessed.
The faithful Church member will see the Church blessed.
The faithful Christian will see his life blessed.

God said it, we can trust Him.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: (Ephesians 1:3).

We serve a good God, He does all things well, He never makes a mistake. We can trust Him.

We can trust His bottle.

... put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? (Psalms 56:8).

My friend, God knows and sees every tear that you shed. he knows all about your sorrow. Your tears are not wasted. One day God will wipe them all away.

The song writer said, hold on my child, joy comes in the morning. Trust the Lord, He will help you, even when your heart is broken.

For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears... (Psalms 116:8).

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. (Psalms 126:5).

He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces... (Isaiah 25:8).

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Revelation 21:4).

There is joy for those who trust in the Lord. Your tears are temporary when you trust Him.

Then we can trust His blot. The Bible says that when we trust Him, our sins are blotted out, gone forever, never to be remembered again.

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (Psalms 51:1).

Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. (Psalms 51:9).

David trusted that blot. His sin was great, but Godís blot was greater. Because of the Lordís lovingkindness and tender mercy, his sins were blotted out, hidden from the face of God.

You can be free today, not because you deserve it, but because God, by His Grace, has offered to blot your sins out.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19).

The day is coming when you will face the Lord. Your sins will send you to Hell. There is no way around it, except for the blotting of God. If you do not trust that blotting, you will face the judgement. There are many other things we could mention this morning that we could trust, His balm, the beloved, His buckler, His bond, the Bride, etc.

They all mean the same thing. We must trust the Lord. All that we need belong to and is provided by Jesus.

If you canít trust Jesus, who can you trust? No one, He is our only hope.
