Daily in the Psalms : Psalm 9
A SONG OF THANKSGIVING
I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right. Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. Psalms 9:1-6
The Theme here is ďI will praise Thee.Ē God help us to experience victory in Christ and praise Him for those victories. We are letting the Charismatics and the other heretics that never see real victory do all the praising. It time for this world to see real Christians have real praise for real victories.
Thanksgiving For Our Delight In God - The Psalmist said the he would be glad and rejoice in the Lord. The songs of praise that should be springing forth from the lips of Godís people today are those songs that come from grateful hearts. While this world flounders in ingratitude, we ought to be praising our Lord for all that He is doing in our lives and all that He has promised us. Our heart ought to delight in Him. When our hearts delight in Him, we will be filled with praise and thanksgiving. All of the works of God praise Him, but man is to lead the chorus. The winds, the waters, all that God has ever made have a song to sing, but the sweetest to the ears of God is the song from the lips of the crown of creation, man. But that song is not to be from our lips only, it is to be with our whole heart. The heart that is truly humbled at the marvelous works of God will praise and thank Him.
Thanksgiving For Our Deliverance By God- The Psalmist gave thanks to God for always maintaining his right and cause. Because God is who He is, it should not be difficult for us to know that His right and cause will always be maintained. But we serve a God so good that He will also maintain the right and cause of His people. When we are in the will of God, we are also in the presence of God and that will assure our deliverance from our enemies. That is why David said that God was his sure deliverance in time of trouble. That ought to also be the song of our heart, our God is with us and He will deliver us. If your lips are faithful to sing His praises and thank Him for the past victories, you will have no problem looking to Him for future victories and thank Him in advance for them. This world may seem filled with injustice and wrong, but God is still on the throne and He is still the defender of justice and right. We may not be able to see or understand His timetable, but He will deal with every individual and every nation according to His justice and right. You may see the saint wronged and the sinner triumphant a thousand times, but never forget that the Lord sits on the throne and justice will be done
A SONG OF THANKSGIVING
Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever. O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. Psalms 9:1-6
Thanksgiving For The Destruction Of Godís Enemies - As we read these verses, we can almost see David standing over the slain body of Goliath, Moses standing at the edge of the Red Sea grave of the Philistines, and all the other people of God as they have experienced the victory that comes only from the great hand of God. Every one of those victories is a testimony and a pledge from God that He will not spare the wicked. Everything, even their memorials, even their memory and will be judged by God, they will lie in perpetual ruins. Man has made many laws, some of them are great laws, but as we see so many times today, man is not always willing or capable of acting on those laws. You can be sure that Godís laws are the best and He will act upon them. Before the God of Heaven, thrones founded on unrighteousness will fall, ill-gotten fortunes will be shipwrecked, wicked cities will perish, ungodly empires will be defeated and the armies of His enemies will melt. God vindicates Himself with awful severity. Lift up your head, God and His people will be vindicated and His enemies will be destroyed
"Your one business in life is to lead men to believe in Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Every other thing should be made subservient to this one objective."
A SONG OF TESTIMONY
But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. When he maketh inquisition for blood, he remembereth them: he forgetteth not the cry of the humble. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: That I may shew forth all thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in thy salvation. Psalms 9:7-14
The theme we see in these verses is ďThou hast not forsaken.Ē (Verse 10) As evil surrounds us and as that evil seems to blot out the power and the promises of our God, let us never forget that God will never leave us nor forsake us.
The Testimony Of The Judgment Of God - God has prepared His throne for judgment. Kings and kingdoms come and go, but the Lord reigns as King of kings forever. His Word has said of His government, there shall be no end. Every Christian must seek to be a testimony of our faith in the faithfulness of our Lord. His Kingdom will survive, no matter who the enemy is and how strong he may seem. Not only will His Kingdom endure, He shall judge the world in righteousness. The Righteous Judge will bring all the unrighteous into Divine judgment. Our testimony should be to remain faithful, even while the heathen rage, the Kingdom of the righteous will be victorious.
The Testimony Of The Justice Of God - We must never forget that the Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed. By the oppressed, we are speaking of those that know and love Him. There are many oppressed people in this world, but they cannot claim this promise unless they know the God of true justice. This is a promise for His People, He is our Refuge, our Fortress and our Rock. What a wonderful God we serve that will lift us up above our troubles. As the people of God face the enemy of God, His blessings come down upon us and instantly we feel as though we are securely lodged in the rock of His safety. Violence cannot climb that Rock, sorrow cannot penetrate that Rock, fear cannot overthrow that Rock, and the Devil himself cannot find a secret weapon against that Rock. It is a Rock of strength and safety of all of Godís people. He has not forsaken His people.
The Testimony Of The Jubilation Of Godís People - It is a sad thing today to know that the song of Godís people is silent. We are letting the song of the wicked drown us out. We have a duty to sing praises unto the Lord. Not the song of the world or a song that sounds like the song of the world, but a holy song of praise and thanksgiving to our God. Too many songs today, even those that are sung in Church, are testimonies of the world and itís influence on us. We must sing a song that is a testimony of the holiness, greatness and victory of God. That is the kind of song that will encourage and inspire others. When the cry of the oppressed reaches the throne of God, He will not rest until that cry is avenged. The Psalmist gives clear illustration of humility as he cries for the mercy of God. He pleads his case before God, the only one that can help him. There are times and circumstances that bring us to very low places, times of infirmity, sickness, trouble, conflict and persecution. Many times we cannot look to anyone in this world for help, but we can always go to our God. He is ready to hear and to deliver us. Because he had faith and confidence in God, David promises to show forth praise to Him. Our voice, our profession, our gifts, our service, everything we have is to be offered to the God that hears and helps us. Our lives ought to be a testimony of jubilation, a testimony that says to all that we will praise Him, acknowledge Him, love Him, seek Him, and strive to build His Kingdom
A SONG OF TRIUMPH
The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken. The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever. Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight. Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations may know themselves to be but men. Selah. Psalms 9:15-20
The theme here is ďbecause of His judgment, the Lord, Jehovah, will be made known.Ē
The Penalty Assessed By God - All of Godís laws and principles were made for manís good and joy. The pits that men fall into are those that they have dug for themselves by violating Godís laws and principles. By going against God, man creates his own misery. Just think about so many places of misery that man has made for himself, jails, penitentiaries, and the places for the criminally insane. God never intended there to be such places; that is why He has given us His Word and His Spirit. But manís pride, his appetite for pleasure, his folly and his covetousness has caused him to dig horrible pits for himself, pits that he will eventually fall into. Even the eternal Hell of the Bible is a pit that man dug for himself. God made this earth in perfection, a place for man to dwell without trouble. But manís sin caused the place of eternal misery to be dug. Our sin stokes its flames, forges its chains, and adds to its number. Man may devise ways to disguise the pit and hide the net, but he cannot outwit God. Since the Garden, man has tried to break the laws of God and escape the penalty of God, but he has always failed and he always will. The sinner will fall into the pit and will be snared by sinís net. Those that think they are cheating other men, the Devil and even God are only cheating themselves. All one has to do is look at history and know that the justice of God is sure. All men die and all that man builds or accumulates passes away. God is known by His judgments; all we have to do is open our eyes. The justice of God will see to it that all debts are paid; no matter how long that payment is delayed.
The Punishment Executed By God - Sometimes it may be easy for us to think about the most vile of our society being punished in Hell, but the truth of the Word of God is that all who forget Him will suffer punishment there. We have a society that tries in vain to make us forget God and His principles. They say that punishment is not a deterrent or corrective. But Godís message is quite different. The threat of punishment in Hell is a deterrent and is the final corrective step for the sinner. Hell is Godís way to right all wrongs. But Hell is also punishment and that punishment will be executed upon every soul that has neglected or forgotten God. No matter how proud man may be, no matter how many crowns he may place on his own head, no matter how defiant he may become, one day he will tremble at the judgments of a Holy God. After this life, every man will stand before God and then he will know the truth of the words in verse 20, ďThe nations may know themselves to be but men.Ē
The Pleading For Victory By Godís People - That plea is simple, ďLet not man prevail.Ē Prayer is the believerís weapon of war. Man cannot prevail against God and the prayer of His people
